There is now substantial evidence that traumatic life experiences play an important role in the development and maintenance of voice hearing and many other psychosis-like experiences. Increasingly, therapists are seeking effective ways to address these underlying trauma-related processes while remaining responsive to the unique challenges experienced by this client group.

This highly practical, experiential workshop explores how Schema Therapy, Imagery Rescripting and chair work can be adapted to help individuals experiencing distressing voices and other psychosis-like symptoms.

Drawing on current research, clinical experience and real-world case examples, participants will learn how to formulate voices from a schema and modes perspective, work therapeutically with critical and punitive voices, target trauma memories that maintain symptoms, and strengthen clients' Healthy Adult mode to promote recovery.

Throughout the day, Georgie will integrate research evidence with practical clinical application through:

  • Client video examples

  • Live therapy demonstrations

  • Case illustrations

  • Small-group discussions

  • Experiential role plays

  • Practical clinical tips for immediate implementation

With attendance intentionally limited to just 15 participants, the workshop provides a highly interactive learning environment with opportunities for discussion, questions and personalised feedback.

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for psychologists and other mental health professionals working in a therapy role.

The workshop is best suited to clinicians who have some prior knowledge or introductory training in Schema Therapy and/or Imagery Rescripting.

For clinicians newer to working with voice hearing and psychosis, access to a pre-recorded introductory video on understanding voices and psychosis will be provided as part of the pre-workshop materials.

Finding the Bridge: Schema Therapy and Imagery Rescripting for Trauma, Voice Hearing and Psychosis

Traditional Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for psychosis has focused largely on thoughts, beliefs and behavioural responses to voices and hallucinations. However, research is increasingly demonstrating that distressing mental imagery—including trauma memories, intrusive images and feared future images—can play an important role in the development and maintenance of voice hearing and visual hallucinations.

This highly practical, experiential workshop introduces Imagery-Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (IE-CBT) for voice hearing alongside Imagery-Focused Therapy (IFT) for visual hallucinations. Participants will learn how to assess and formulate the role of imagery in voices and visual hallucinations, and how to integrate imagery-based interventions into routine CBT for psychosis.

Drawing on Georgie's clinical research and experience developing these approaches, participants will explore a range of imagery-based techniques, including imagery rescripting, imagery transformation, compassionate imagery, imagery exposure and future imagery methods. The workshop also introduces a novel protocol for working therapeutically with visual hallucinations using imagery-based interventions.

Throughout the day, research evidence is integrated with practical clinical skills through: client video examples, therapy demonstrations, case illustrations, small-group discussions, experiential role plays, practical clinical strategies that can be immediately incorporated into therapy.

CPD

Dissociation is a common response to overwhelming stress and trauma, yet many therapists report feeling uncertain about how to recognise it, assess it and respond effectively when it occurs in therapy. When left unrecognised, dissociation can interfere with therapeutic engagement, emotional processing and memory integration, reducing the effectiveness of treatment.

This highly practical, experiential workshop is designed to help clinicians build confidence in recognising, assessing and responding to dissociation across a range of presentations, including complex trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, psychosis and other complex mental health disorders. Participants will learn how to identify common signs of dissociation, develop formulations that guide treatment planning, and adapt therapy to help clients remain present and engaged.

Drawing on current research and extensive clinical experience, the workshop combines evidence-based teaching with client videos, live demonstrations, case discussions, experiential exercises and role plays, providing practical skills that can be immediately integrated into everyday clinical practice.

Who should attend?

This workshop is designed for psychologists and other mental health professionals providing psychological therapy.

The workshop is most suitable for clinicians with who would like to develop greater confidence in recognising and responding to dissociative presentations. Clinicians with advanced expertise in dissociation are welcome to contact Georgie prior to registering to discuss whether the workshop is likely to meet their learning needs.

Staying Present: Recognising, Assessing and Treating Dissociation in Therapy

Dissociation is a common response to overwhelming stress and trauma, yet many therapists report feeling uncertain about how to recognise it, assess it, and respond effectively when it occurs in therapy. When left unrecognised, dissociation can interfere with emotional processing, memory integration and therapeutic engagement, wOPRKreducing the effectiveness of treatment.

This highly practical, experiential workshop provides clinicians with the knowledge and confidence to recognise, assess and respond to dissociation across a range of clinical presentations, including complex trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, psychosis and other complex mental health disorders. Participants will learn how to differentiate dissociation from other psychological processes, recognise common warning signs, understand the Window of Tolerance, and develop formulations that guide treatment planning.

Drawing on current research and clinical experience, the workshop explores practical strategies for helping clients remain present during therapy, preventing and managing dissociation within sessions, adapting trauma-focused interventions when dissociation is present, and safely pacing trauma processing. Throughout the day, learning is brought to life through client videos, live demonstrations, case illustrations, small-group discussions and experiential role plays, providing participants with practical skills they can immediately integrate into clinical practice.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Psychologists and other mental health professionals working in a therapy role.

This workshop is designed for clinicians with little to moderate experience working with dissociation who would like to build greater confidence in recognising, assessing and responding to dissociative presentations in therapy.

Clinicians with advanced expertise in dissociation are welcome to contact Georgie prior to registering to discuss whether the workshop is likely to meet their learning needs.
